According to a study conducted in 2019, 45% of people wear underwear for 2 days or longer. At the same time, 13% of respondents wear the same pair for a week or more.
Why it’s important to change your underwear in a timely manner
Clothing absorbs and accumulates things that our body sheds, like sweat, fats, skin cells, and so on. Wearing dirty underwear can be dangerous for several reasons.
- First, such underwear often harbors microorganisms and is an excellent breeding ground for bacteria, yeast, and fungi. And this may lead to irritation and infections of the intimate parts of the body.
- Second, wearing the same underwear for a long time can lead to skin infections, cause clogged pores, and provoke rashes or skin irritation.
- Third, dirty underwear containing a large number of secretions can smell bad, and its owner may not even notice it.

To prevent the accumulation of sweat, bacteria and various contaminants, experts recommend changing panties daily and washing bras after 2-3 wears.
However, in some cases, it’s recommended to change underwear more frequently, like after an active workout or if you sweat heavily. Also, if you’ve stained your underwear, like during your period, for example, it’s recommended to change it as soon as possible.
It’s recommended to replace old panties with new ones at least once a year or even more often, like once every 6 months, for instance. The same thing applies to bras.
